Researching for the Nutrition Database
Researching for the Nutrition Database

Have you ever chosen a theme for your year? Maybe it's "The Year I Lose 30 Pounds" or "The Year I Go Back to School!"

I've had a number of themes over the years. One year, as a pastor's wife, I felt decidedly that it was "The Year of Possession." When the words hit me like a ton of bricks that January, I was ecstatic, thinking, "Yes! I'm going to possess every promise this year! Everything I've felt called to do is going to drop right into my lap and I'm going to possess those dreams!"

What happened instead was the beginning of some horrible trials and I found myself on the brink of mental breakdown. That stormy year, however, pushed me--and pushed me hard--to the reality that, as Mel Robbins has said in her book "The Let Them Theory," NO ONE was going to show up and save me.

Yes, I serve the Lord and He has, time and again, come through for me, but there were some steps He expected me to take on my own. He would open the doors but I couldn't sit on the couch just staring into the abyss! I needed to take a step... and then another!

During that "Year of Possession," NOT ONE dream came true! But... it made me so dissatisfied with the status quo that I was pushed into taking some risks! That year pushed me to increased fervor with my walk with God, committing to TWO HOURS everyday of study and prayer!

Where I had only been ministering maybe once every 3-4 months, suddenly, God began to open doors. The more I studied, the more doors opened for me to share what God was sharing with me!

Not only that, but those storms prompted me to start a journey toward what my passions were. Previously, I had simply sought a career that could pay the bills, offer security, and at least a small fraction of satisfaction and dignity. That year, however, I realized I was engaged in projects about as exciting as watching paint dry! It was time I reconnected with the early callings and passions I had felt as a youth.

For instance, I wrote my first novel at the age of 11. No joke! Fifty-six glorious, typed pages of a beautiful childhood novel!

I wrote a second a year or two later. I have loved to write since I could form the letters, and I had wanted to be a published author since I was ten.

During that Year of Possession, I gathered all the scrawled notes I had been saving in a large, plastic tote, and began writing! It began a several year long journey of fleshing out my ideas for my first book.

This year, I am finally in touch with a publisher looking to publish that work! By Christmas, I am fully expecting to have my first book on the market!

The key though was that I couldn't find the sense of urgency I needed to push me into my dreams until that stormy year. The year I thought I was losing everything, pushed me to leave behind old crutches and reach!

Sometimes, the greatest thing you can do is detach yourself from the comfort of mediocrity, the salience of the usual whirlwind, and the fear of failure that seem to intertwine us like great roots from a forboding tree of It'll Never Happen, and reach upward for something new!

This year, I'm taking on a new challenge that has been my passion for the last five years. My earnest desire is to put into the hands of men and women, just like me, who want to change their health!

2020 was a year that shattered illusions of whom one could trust! I don't know about you, but it shook me to my core! But like that Year of Possession so long ago, it was that storm that set me on a new journey toward building a Healthy Terrain so that I could weather the threats against my and my family's health.

The more I learned, the more I shared with others. The more I shared with others, the more I realized I have to reach as many as I can with knowledge of how to reclaim our health through healthy eating and natural approaches to health.

While I am not a doctor, I have spent years studying nutrition and am pursuing my license as a Registered Dietician.

In a 'previous life,' I was a technical writer. One system that was invaluable to my clients and those within the company alike, was an online help system. The help system defined how to complete processes within the software and was organized by application as well as by processes needed by various job roles within cities and counties.

That help system was a master stroke for finding information in a quick and thorough manner. That's my background for the last thirteen years and so, as I began to explore nutrition, I seized upon the idea that we desperately need a nutrition online help system!

Why not create a database, of sorts, that can be sorted and searched based on ailment, nutrient, or recipe? And so, that is just what I'm doing!

Welcome to the ground floor! If you're reading this, you have now joined this journey with me and get to witness the growth of a new concept, a new way forward!

What the Nutrition Database Will Include

On this site, I am building a compendium of recipes that make use of super foods and vital nutrients, the deficiency of which has caused many of the health problems we see in our world today.

Eventually, you will be able to search by ailment, to view which super foods and nutrients can better help you as you pursue your treatment plan by your doctors. In this way, you can truly partner with your medical advisors in healing your body!

You will also be able to search by super food or nutrient. If your doctor, nurse practitioner, or even a health influencer has recommended a particular vitamin or mineral, you'll be able to search for it and find a host of recipes that will introduce that nutrient into your body naturally... through good, healthy, cost-effective meals!

Finally, for those who are just foodies at heart--of which I also am one--you can peruse the recipe section to see what wets your appetite! Each recipe will include a section on the super foods and nutrients present within the recipe!

Basically, it's a three-sided approach to supplementing your body's needs in the best way possible--through what you ingest! Studies show that only about 20% of vitamins is usable by the body, meaning that roughly 80% is flushed out of your body and wasted! To truly receive the nutrition you need to heal, to build a healthy terrain, and to enhance your bodily function as you age, you need to be consuming that nutrition through non-GMO, organically and responsibly-sourced foods.

So, come along for the ride! I'd love your input! What ailment do you need nutritional remedies for? What super food are you curious about? Heard something wild that you need me to research for you, contact me and let's start digging!

Oh, and for this year, I've chosen a theme. I cannot pretend that I or this channel/database have arrived yet. In fact, I'm just now gaining subscribers and helpers in this venture. However, I can choose this year to be the year of building a framework that works, compiling the data, sourcing and fine-tuning the recipes, and growing a community that helps each other as we grow stronger and healther together!

This is my Year of Exponential Growth! And you're invited to come along for the ride!!
